Zoot Suits were originally worn by Latino and African American youth in Chicago and Los Angeles. The suits consisted of a long coat with wide lapels and padded shoulders with high-waisted, wide legged pegged trousers. The zoot suit is well known for the Zoot Suit Riots in Los Angeles in 1943, which involved Latino youth and sailors. Eventually the zoot suit was fazed out due to the WWII textile restrictions.
